Yola is derived from Yolde, a Fulani language word means a settlement on rising ground. Yola is capital and re-known city of Adamawa state and spread across the north-eastern hillside of Nigeria. The city has its own Yola International Airport and Jimeta sea port. Yola’s International airport serves hundreds and thousands of passengers travelling to and from Yola to Lagos, Abuja, Port-Harcourt and Maiduguri. Being a neighbouring country, Accra Ghana is one of the major destination where locals travel frequently.
Yola has a very important role in and position in the territory therefore it has been controlled and ruled by various invaders including French, British, Germans, Nigers and local Fulani groups until they gain their independence as a state in 1963 and later joined hands with Nigerian government.

It has a diverse community as Majority of the locals are Muslims and Christians living side by side peacefully. Three sister hills, a formation of three rocks is a famous tourist place in Yola. The Lambido palace, annual horse-riding durbar and a zoo attracts thousands of tourists from all part of the country.
